Organization Information
Formed on April 19, 1965 under Ohio Revised Code Chapter 1545, The Medina County Park District seeks to enhance the quality of all life through education, conservation, and the protection of natural resources.

Since its formation, the park district has acquired and developed land in areas throughout the county. Emphasis has been placed on acquiring land for open space preservation and preservation of unique natural resources.

Residents of the county support the park district through a 1 mill property tax. These monies are used to purchase land for the preservation of wildlife and natural resources, to fund the development of park facilities, and to carry on the day-to-day operations of the district.

General Description and Summary
Under the supervision of the director, the Capital Projects Coordinator manages capital projects as budgeted by the board of park commissioners in accordance with the policies, bylaws, rules and regulations established by the Board of Park Commissioners and the Ohio Revised Code Chapter 1545.  The Capital Projects Coordinator may assist the director in other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists with overseeing the daily operation of the park district, including inspection of facilities.
  2. Assists with the preparation of the annual capital project budget for submission to the Board.
  3. Acts as a liaison with other agencies and public officials as needed for completion of projects.
  4. Attends staff meetings to update project status.
  5. Acts as a public speaker as requested.
  6. Works with all staff to determine capital project needs.
  7. Assists with the preparation of grant applications for both public and private funding on various park district projects.
  8. Participates in general park planning activities.
  9. Works with various volunteer groups to complete projects on park district properties.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the director.

 Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. General knowledge of public relations, staff relations, recreation principles, land acquisition, fiscal and operational management principles.
  2. Good communication skills with the ability to relate well with others at all levels.
  3. Ability to make public presentations.
  4. The ability to deal effectively with sensitive issues.
  5. The ability to work independently with little supervision.

 Minimum Qualifications

  1. Any combination of training and experience that would indicate possession of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
  2. Four-year degree in parks and recreation management or related field.
  3. Minimum five years of progressive management experience in parks and recreation or a related field.
  4. Possession of a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license with a good driving record.
  5. Satisfactory criminal background check.
