OPRA Foundation annually awards continuing education scholarships to students and professionals who exemplify the future of our profession and wish to further their education in the field of parks, recreation and leisure studies. The scholarships may be broken into two categories: conference fees and lodging. The primary use of this scholarship is for attendance to the OPRA Conference & Trade Show. Other conferences will be evaluated for relevance to the profession and must have elements including at least one of the following: parks/law enforcement, park operations, natural resource management, therapeutic recreation, commercial recreation, outdoor recreation, tourism, community recreation, recreation management, aquatic management, non-profit recreation management, recreational sports management and leisure studies.
Scholarships are evaluated based on two criteria: resume and essay question.
Must be an Ohio resident; and/or have a declared major in a relevant degree program at a college or university in Ohio; and/or must be employed in Ohio by a parks and recreation agency or related field.
If you are requesting funding for lodging, please note that you will be required to share a room. Up to two professionals per room; up to four students per room.
Scholarship recipients are required to volunteer for OPRA Foundation activities at the OPRA Conference. Requirements may vary dependent upon awarded amount. Recipients will be notified of the requirements and put in contact with the volunteer coordinator. Please note that volunteering for the OPRA Conference, such as room hosting, welcome desk, and exhibit hall, will not fulfill your volunteer requirements. In addition, recipients must complete a post conference survey regarding their experience.
