The City of Brooklyn invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Parks and Recreation Commissioner. There is currently one (1) opening. The position is in the unclassified service of the City and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor. Interested applicants can obtain employment applications on the City of Brooklyn’s website. General Description of Duties: Under the administrative direction of the Mayor oversees the day to day operations of the Recreation Department, plans, organizes and implements programs and administers the operations and staff of the Recreation Department. Plans and directs a year round city wide parks and recreation program. Responsible for overall customer relations with the residents and patrons of the Recreation Department. Provides leadership and direction to the Recreation Department and interprets the goals and policies of the City.
Minimum Qualifications for Positions: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Parks and Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Public Administration, or a related field (Masters Degree in related field preferred), and five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in a related field; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Salary Information: Salary will be based per ordinances as established by City Council. Currently, that range is $50,000 – $80,000.
