Salary Range: 
$47,500.00 – $60,000.00 Annually

Primary Focus
Under the general direction of the Recreation Services Administrator- Programming, the successful candidate will exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in planning, directing, supervising, coordinating, managing and evaluating all Adult Recreation Programs.

Responsibilities include developing programs, activities, and services; managing the financial aspects of assigned programs including staff, equipment, and supply costs; preparing and presenting budget information and reports; interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating part-time, intermittent and/or seasonal employees and contractual instructors. Other duties will include: working with appropriate staff to schedule use of facilities/classrooms for various programs and communicating to Guest Services and MOD staff any maintenance needs related to room set up/break downs.

This position requires extensive communication with participants as well as significant participant recruitment and mobilization. Superior customer service, marketing and communication skills are required. The nature of this classification requires the successful candidate to work a variety of hours including evenings, weekends, holidays.

Given the nature of this classification’s duties/responsibilities, it has been designated as Exempt under the governing Fair Labor Standards Act regulations and, therefore, is not entitled to formal overtime compensation and/or formal compensatory time.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises Recreation Program Coordinators and part time/seasonal staff.

Examples of Duties
Essential Functions
Develops and designs specific recreational programs through community evaluation and research of concept programs.

Maintains statistical data, records and revenue reporting. Develop program area specific metrics.

Responsible for program administration including scheduling of staff, maintaining and ordering equipment and supplies, and facility and logistical planning.

Recommends marketing strategies for program changes and enhancements.

Supervises full-time, seasonal and part-time staff related to programming area that includes recruiting and selection, performance evaluation, development and employee relations.

Works with staff, patrons and other work units to provide successful program implementation.

Provides consistent and accurate information to the public, patrons, staff and/or other work units.

Interacts with schools, community businesses, vendors and patrons to resolve issues or complaints dealing with programs or operational issues. Uses discretion in escalating issues or complaints to appropriate administrator.

Ensures appropriate and safe facilities and supplies for specific work unit programs.

Develops recommendations for preventive maintenance schedules for equipment procurement and offsite facility inspections.

Oversees repair schedules to ensure minimal customer and/or facility disruption. Serves as a liaison with other departments and work units to identify, notify and act upon client and facility needs.

Develops work unit specific budget recommendations; justifies operational and budgetary improvements and expenditures; develops cost studies and research for program needs with budgetary impact; monitors budget expenditures, procurement, invoicing and monthly reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management, Recreation and Leisure, Physical Education or other relevant field and considerable progressively responsible supervisory experience in the Recreation or other similar industry, some in the program area to which assigned, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working with and developing cutting edge programming for Adult, Baby Boomer, and Older Adult market preferred.

Certifications in CPR, First Aid and valid Ohio’s Driver’s License.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Good organizational skills.

Good conflict resolution skills.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, subordinates, peers, community, school groups, and general public.

Ability to prepare detailed reports.

Ability to maintain statistical data and records.

Physical Requirements
Ability to move about the inside of an office space to access file cabinets and office equipment.

Constantly operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a copier, fax machine, mobile device, shredder, scanner, etc.

Must be able to remain in stationary position at workstation throughout scheduled workday.

Ability to exchange information with co-workers and citizens through use of email system, the telephone, and in-person interactions.

Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs for facility operational and/or safety needs.

Ability to enter data into computer system in a sustained manner.

Special Requirements
Valid driver’s license.
