Recreation Program Supervisor, Strongsville Recreation Department

Salary Range:  $57,178 - $94,289 per year

Reports to the Director of Recreation and Senior Services.  This is a supervisory position involving the use of mature judgment, management ability, organizational skills, communication skills, ability to relate, lead, and get along with people of all ages.  The work involves supervising and development of department sponsored programs, classes, activities and events while ensuring that high-quality services are provided to citizens, businesses and community partners. A high degree of independence, sound judgment, initiative, attention to detail, anticipatory problem-solving and administrative ability is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities (not intended to be exclusive):

  1. Responsible for, both short and long term planning of City sponsored events along with the necessary administrative skills required for outdoor park facilities including proper maintenance and knowledge ofequipment needed for said park spaces.
  2. Interviews, supervises, instructs and evaluates Town Center park personnel, instructors, etc.
  3. Schedules and coordinates programs to be held at the Town Center Park including the contract rental of park facilities at the Town Center.
  4. Conducts park staff orientation and training for personnel and instructors.
  5. Carries out the policies of the Town Center Park area and interprets same to staff.
  6. Anticipates and identifies marketing opportunities and solutions including the solicitation and maintenance of Town Center Park sponsorship agreements.Employs solid marketing, public relations and communication strategies to achieve desired communication outcomes.
  7. Responsible for the development and execution of advertising, both print and electronic.
  8. Maintains all necessary park records and reports including all alcohol permits.
  9. Develops a Town Center Park budget for park programs, staff, and supplies and control same.
  10. Performs related tasks as required by the Director of Recreation & Senior Services.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to instruct various outdoor recreation and/or park programs and activities.
  • Considerable knowledge of the rules and equipment used in recreation and park environments.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and responsibilities of planning, promoting, and organizing ofactivities for all ages.
  • Ability to instruct others in such activities.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate activities.
  • Ability to adapt programs to particular needs of participants.
  • Ability to work with and direct people.
  • Ability to plan, supervise and coordinate the work of both volunteers and professional personnel.
  • Dependability, good physical condition, flexible working hours including weekends and evenings as necessary and scheduled.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Four-year college degree in recreation or event planning or full-time work equivalent in recreation or park environment.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanics and be able to perform light maintenance duties when necessary.
  • Courses in lifesaving, CPR, and first-aid are required.
  • Experience in the public sector is preferred.
