Wages:  $17 per hour

Job Responsibilities
Under direction, the Recreation Supervisor directs youth and adult sports and recreational activities, supervises department personnel, maintains program records, plans, directs, and evaluates programs, and ensures the maintenance of city fields.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years progressive experience in recreation with a record of success supervising and directing the work of others or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must have the ability to obtain a youth sports background clearance and concussion certification.

Working Conditions
The Recreation Supervisor may be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, will work outdoors and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions.

65% RECREATION PROGRAMMING

  • Develops, administers, and evaluates recreational programs and activities
  • Conducts organizational meetings
  • Arranges team selection
  • Recruits and schedules umpires
  • Denotes an essential function of the job
  • Schedules games, practices, and tournaments
  • Compiles and circulates league standings
  • Distributes participant evaluations and compiles results
  • Schedules classes and arranges for instructors
  • Collects program fees
  • Prepares event rooms and sets up equipment
  • Purchases sports awards and concession items
  • Maintains inventory of sports equipment
  • Procures materials and supplies
  • Arranges transportation, as required
  • Attends recreation-sponsored events

20% ADMINISTRATION

  • Participates in long range planning for the department
  • Participates in the development of the annual sports budget
  • Administers sports budget
  • Determines necessary staffing and recommends staffing levels
  • Assists in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures
  • Coordinates services and department activities
  • Ensures effective exchange of information with other departments and municipalities
  • Prepares and maintains department records and reports
  • Responds to resident questions and complaints and refers to Parks and
  • Recreation Director as needed
  • Ensures maintenance of park ball fields and facilities

10% SUPERVISION

  • Participates in the hiring process of new employees and volunteers
  • Trains employees and volunteers
  • Assigns and monitors the work of employees and volunteers
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures
  • Coordinates work schedules
  • Reviews employee time sheets and authorizes overtime
  • Evaluates employee performance
  • Maintains proper records
  • Participates in grievance procedures, as necessary
  • Ensures effective communication of information to all employees and volunteers
  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff in fulfilling their responsibilities

5%         MISCELLANEOUS

  • Attends meetings and serves on temporary committees, as requested
  • Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, training seminars and in-service training sessions
  • Performs additional duties and assignments, as required
