Event Overview
Presented By
Parks and recreation departments around Ohio are annually impacted by decisions made by state legislators. Having a working knowledge of the state legislative process gives parks and recreation professionals opportunities to impact that process and add to the value they provide to their departments and communities.
This session will provide attendees with a(n):
- overview of the purpose of advocacy
- introduction to the Ohio political landscape
- detailed explanation of Ohio's legislative processes
- overview of parks and recreation issues currently before the legislature
- tips for building an advocacy team in your community
- tour of the Statehouse (optional)
The session will be led by OPRA Executive Director Woody Woodward, who also serves as OPRA's lobbyist. Woody began his career as an aide in the Ohio House of Representatives and has over 30 years of experience in state government advocacy in Ohio, having led numerous successful advocacy initiatives and developed deep relationships on both sides of the political aisle.
